The Worst Way To Get Clients If You’re A Coach

As coaches, sometimes getting clients is hard.

And I see so many coaches struggling to get clients and make money… and when I look at what they are doing, it’s no wonder it’s not working for them!

Most coaches have no idea how to get clients and so they think coaching is not a viable business (which totally isn’t their fault! Coaching school teaches you coaching skills, not marketing skills).

The way most coaches go about it is all wrong – being really generic about what they do, coaching anyone and everyone they can fine, and being vague about what results they actually deliver.  And this leads to spending MOST of their time explaining what coaching is, rather than talking about what results they will actually get their clients.

I’m SO determined to change that. I don’t think coaching has to be done any one way, and I believe that getting clients and making money can be SUPER easy and fun (imagine that!).

I have learned that when you can leverage your expertise and build your business around THAT, clients come knocking down your door. You need to talk about what you do in a way that people understand (and “I help you realize your full potential” isn’t something people understand).

So, coaches, right now, think about what makes you different as a coach. What part of your expertise do you want to leverage in your business? For example, I’m awesome at making shit HAPPEN, so when I talk to people about what I do, I talk about how I help people finally start the businesses they dream of. I talk about how I help people find work that lets them travel the world at the same time. I talk about the tangible outcomes of working with me, NOT about how I work with people. Coaching isn’t a business. Coaching is a tool you can use in your business to help people achieve some ind of desired, tangible result.

Try coming from THAT place the next time you talk to someone about coaching, and see how it changes the conversation.
