With the end of the year fast approaching – faster than ever since (American) Thanksgiving was so late – it feels like we’ve got less time than ever with Christmas and the end of the year rapidly approaching.
It’s critical during the crunch of social parties, work events, family stuff, holiday celebrating and food gorging, to take time to breathe, connect with your life and year, and spend some time diving into the year behind you so you can start 2014 strong + powerful, poised to realize your big dreams.
Without ritual, these moments can slip by us, or never materialize. It’s easy to get lost in the bustle and think “I’ll deal with it later” – but as we all know, there is no later, especially not at this time of year. Ritual helps us ground, and do the interpersonal reflection required to help grow and nurture your business.
My year end ritual has ALWAYS been best-of lists. I like to make up unique titles and create personalized lists that only make sense in my world and in my life. It’s been a fun, creative way to look back on the year and interpret my lessons and successes. I love to make collages out of them, or paintings. I like to save them from year to year so I can get a sense of how my life, lessons, love, and business have evolved from December to December.
It helps me to leave the past in the past – to honor the moment, event, person, to say thank you, and let it go. It’s an emotional clearing that helps me start the new year shinier, more open and free, and clear about where I’m going.
So, when I say I’ve been doing this for years, please imagine High School Ellen staying in with friends on New Years to do these lists, burn scraps of paper with what I wanted to leave behind, and creating some amazing intention setting art. That was more than one New Years Eve and likely there will be more like that in the future because I am into this stuff.
So much so that I’ve created two amazing workshops around looking back and looking forward – sold them out locally for the last 2 years, and this year, I’ve gone digital. You can get all the details HERE – but suffice to say, if you’re ready to understand your year in a new, powerful way, you need this.
I’ve poured all my rituals, creativity, and special Ellen magic into these to create a unique, powerful and creative experience for you because I really believe that this retrospective, grounding, introspective, creative work is key to creating the type of business and life you want.
By reflecting on where we’ve been, we can chart a clear course towards where we are going.
This quote from Steve Jobs really speaks to WHY this work is so important:
“Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”
This is how we connect the dots for a stronger future. This is how you step into the life and business you know you want, deserve, and are working for. Chart your course.
Create your own reflective ritual. Grab your journal, light a candle, block out an hour or two, grab some girlfriends – I created a group version because I LOVE doing this kind of work with girlfriends and wine! It’s also a boss way to support your power posse.
Use these workshops to support you, or create your own, but please take time to breathe and reflect on where you’ve been, where you want to go, and why. If you have a year end ritual you already do, I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
