Screw the ‘shoulds’ – how are you going to make it work?

June 5, 2011

I am dedicated to obliterating the notion of “should”.  Seriously, think about how often you say “I should…” to yourself.  How many times is it something you really WANT to do? Like, almost zero right?  Screw that.   Lives are for living, and here you’ll find helpful hints, inspiration and straight up guidelines for living a creative life that works for YOU, instead of you slogging through working for it.

Not everyone is a Professional Artist.  EVERYONE is creative.  Stop telling yourself you’re not.  I hereby give you permission to CREATE! Create art, create fun, create money, create the relationship you want, create adventure, create whatever it is you damn-well WANT, start walking towards it. The path reveals itself.

Sometimes it’s easy, but usually it’s winding and surprising, sometimes you’ve got totally reinvent, duh.  Take this Blog launch (do we capitalize Blog these days? Is it a proper something? Grammar friends, report!) I had it all set with another theme.  The theme was SO PRETTY.  In theory, it let me do everything I wanted to do and would showcase my art and words for all you loyal viewers.  There was just one problem – I couldn’t use it.  It was too complicated for me and it was making me batshit obsessed.   (Seriously.  Imagine me constantly aggressively dive-bombing the same problem for two weeks, using my limited skills and wingspan, expecting different results. There might have been sonar screeching involved.  Terrible.)  So, I downloaded this here FREE template, still fairly pretty-  and look! fully functional using it in less that 30 min.  Screw the ‘I should use the template that makes posts look like Polaroids….’, here’s how I am making.it.work.

What ‘should’ are you going to let go of, right now, and swap it out for creating what you really want?  Get on it.  Report back.  Leave me a comment or post on my FB page.

Put more you in your business

(regardless of your myers-brigg)

  1. I love this! It’s so hard to let go of the idea that you have do everything well, even at the expense of other tasks or projects.

  2. Couldn’t agree more with the comment that “everyone is creative.” What an important message. We get so hung up on a fixed definition of creative, when in reality, it’s so much bigger than that! Thanks for the needed reminder.

  3. Answers.com says that no, the word “blog” does not need to be capitalized. It also says yes in response to the question “Is Ellen awesome?”
